There is this feeling, every time I read about another broken record or professed love through a big award for Adele. I catch myself feeling almost maternal and proud. Crazy! So you can easily imagine the bliss, when Goddess Adele so deservedly received the 6 Grammy Awards she was nominated for, including the 3 most prestigious prizes in the music industry: Best Song, Best Record, and Best Album of the Year…!

Coincidentally, it’s been a little bit more than a year since I started my loving tirade here, with a neverending set of boring overwhelming posts that were meant to warn you of the perfection coming right at your ears… and God did it come. What a year! And what a rise to success, in so many incredible ways, that was set in stone this Sunday, celebrating the triumph one of the best albums of the decade: 21.

I think it profoundly touched me all through the year because I had started enjoying this little gem from the very beginning, enchanted first by the album 19 and hoping for her to continue producing brilliant work later on. She is beautiful! It’s refreshing to have someone genuinely humble and normal and simple, with no need of choreography, über-sexiness, colored lights or special effects – she just IS there, not caring about anything but singing. And that this can still be recognized nowadays! Wow, there’s still hope.

And she is 23. Damn 23, people, meaning that there is SO MUCH MORE perfection coming!

UPDATE: well, the surprises were exactly where there were expected to be! To sum up what will be talked about: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close eventually making the cut for BP, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo not getting the expected last minute love, audience darlings Shame and Drive shut out (huge snub for Fassbender), a few out of the blue nominations (Max von Sydow? Margin Call? Really?), no Spielberg (War Horse was on the downfall anyways + no love for Tintin!), only 2 Best Song nominees, and Rooney Mara and Gary Oldman benefitting from their Dark Horse status. It’s that time of the year again… On Tuesday morning, 5.30 a.m. P.T., the Road to the Oscars will continue for a few as the nominations will represent a victory in itself, instantly conferring a different status. In one of the most interesting races ever, there’s still a lot of uncertainty at this point, even concerning the nominations. It’ll be very revealing to see who makes the cut in the Best Picture category (5 to 10 movies). The Best Director field, for example, is the hardest to predict and will be surprising in any case. And anyway, it’s the Academy Awards! There WILL be big shocks come nominations morning, twists & turns that had never happened in the race before, and that can be very interestingly analyzed. At least two names in each category are not locked at all… Only time will tell! And the tendencies will finally be clearer.

So… behold my annual Academy Awards Nominations Predictions List ! Listed are the « main » categories and their predicted nominees, as well as names that can be considered as dark horses and/or deserve to be considered for a nomination too, in my opinion. Bold indicates locks, MDH is for « Main Dark Horse ».

I am so PUMPED right now, in the very heart of this cinematic season! The road to the Oscars is absolutely fascinating this year, with the ups and downs of every buzz – roller coaster style. Almost nauseating. Pleasantly nauseating.
This week only,  it got extremely busy, as nominations and/or winners were announced for a long list of « precursors »: the Annie Awards, the Producers Guild of America (Television), the Houston Film Critics, the Boston Society of Film Critics, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the New York Film Critics Online, the American Film Institute, the European Film Awards, the British Independent Film Awards, the National Board of Review, and the Washington Film Critics Association.

There’s so many movies and big things coming up. And so many things to discuss. The super overrated (and frontrunner) The Artist, the disgustingly well-received The Help (unpleasantly nauseating), my the love and excitement for the one and only Meryl Streep + the great competition in the Best Actress category, Brad Pitt‘s and George Clooney‘s chances, DiCaprio & Eastwood‘s surprisingly-not-so-well-received J. Edgar, Jessica Chastain‘s & Michael Fassenbender‘s amazing year, Scorsese‘s family movie Hugo currently blooming, The Descendants and War Horse still having to prove strong, … and SO much more. Stay tuned.

Quelques lignes pour vous dire que ça y est, la soirée est terminée! Je viens de vivre ma première cérémonie des Oscars, sur le terrain. Et évidemment, j’étais aussi excité que je le suis chaque année… ^^

Excellente soirée, vraiment réussie! J’aligne un 16/24 catégories, score pas vraiment extraordinaire je l’avoue haha! Je n’ai pas vu tout venir… Comme prévu, The Hurt Locker a dominé l’ensemble des récompenses avec six prix, dont les prestigieux Meilleur Scénario Original, Meilleur Réalisatrice (historique), et surtout Meilleur Film! Suck it, Avatar. Les bonhommes bleus (pas les Schtroumpfs) ont même fait pire que prévu… Je déteste James Cameron.

Une dose nécessaire de surprises également (it’s the Oscars, damn it!), et pas des moindres: Up In The Air perd son Oscar si assuré de Meilleur Scénario face à Precious (qui ne le mérite pas du tout), et ni The White Ribbon ni Un Prophète n’emportent l’Oscar du Meilleur Film Etranger – l’Argentine le gagne à la surprise de tous. Mais d’un côté, ça devient presque une habitude: le film qui remporte tout dans cette catégorie durant la saison perd souvent aux Oscars (c.f. l’ultra loué Waltz With Bashir l’an dernier).

Et pour être plus général, la cérémonie a été très bien orchestrée, avec une somptueuse scène totalement repensée et qui ressemblait à un décor des shows des années 50-60, une charte stylistique retravaillée et magnifique (les magnétos, les couleurs, la présentation des grandes catégories), et tout ça sous la baguette de deux présentateurs parfaits dans ce rôle: Steve Martin et Alec Baldwin, hilarants avec leur humour stoïc tellement dur (James Cameron s’en est pris plein la gueule toute la soirée, et par tout le monde!) mais super fin, génial! Très satisfait donc.

Et comme je l’avais prédit aussi, Sandra Bullock a été sacrée Meilleure Actrice de l’année (après avoir reçu le prix de la Pire Actrice hier soir aux Razzie Awards). Mais je m’y étais préparé, et je ne lui en veux pas (à la limite, elle aussi se demandait si elle méritait ce prix!). Je suis même plutôt content pour elle, c’est une excellente personne, et elle a délivré le meilleur et le plus beau discours de la soirée, qui nous a tous ému quasiment aux larmes… Et puis de toute façon, Meryl Streep (qui était absolument superbe ce soir, à presque 61 ans) n’a absolument plus rien à prouver, et je trouve ça même d’autant plus énorme que chaque année maintenant, celle qui gagne dans cette catégorie finit son discours en déclarant son amour à madame Streep comme quelque chose d’absolument normal – et tout le monde la considère comme la meilleure, quoi qu’il arrive, et quoi qu’elle fasse… !

See you next year then, guys! J’ai déjà hâte de me replonger dans une nouvelle saison de cinéma, et les Oscars créeront toujours le rythme de mon année, que je sois à Los Angeles ou non… ^^

Pour faire écho à l’affligeante apparition de Kristen Stewart qui recevait un prix dans une cérémonie de récompense, je vous propose un équivalent (dans le ridicule-pathétique) français, le « moment fort » de la cérémonie des Césars qui s’est déroulée samedi soir.

Ha ha ha tellement pitoyable !! La grande duchesse de ce monde, môdame Isabelle Adjani se voit décerner pour la cinquième fois le César de la Meilleure Actrice, l’occasion pour elle de faire son grand show tout en condescendance, en satisfaisant ainsi la réputation qui lui colle à la peau liftée. C’est pendant PLUS DE SEPT HEURES MINUTES incroyablement longues qu’elle a squatté la scène, dont presque deux pour enfin se mettre à chuchoter parler. On a eu le droit au spectacle complet, avec le fameux « Je n’y crois pas, je mets ma tête entre mes mains, mais allez-y applaudissez encore et encore », suivi du « Je ne retrouve plus mon papier dans mon sac à main, mais continuez à applaudir, j’attends la fin de la musique d’accompagnement, et je demande de l’aide à mon servant », puis cette magnifique marche aux honneurs pour tenter de faire générer l’ovation, tout en dédaignant (de son regard, sa bouche et son menton) les gens assis à côté d’elle, ainsi que Gad Elmaleh et Valérie Lemercier. IN-CROY-ABLE! Il manquait plus que le « Je ne suis pas folle, vous savez » et on aurait dit la caricature parfaite qu’avait réalisée Florence Foresti (a re-savourer ICI). En tout cas, la grosse choucroute était bien sur la tête (si vous regardez bien, ça ressemble à l’arrière-train d’une jument), et c’est lorsqu’après 5 minutes 30 elle a dit quelque chose comme « quand je vais me mettre à remercier nominalement tout le monde dans un instant », que j’ai compris que ça allait durer… Mais c’est tellement ridicule que ça vaut le coup de regarder jusqu’au bout!

Moi, moi, moi. Qu’est-ce que je peux la détester. Insultable.

Kristen Stewart aux BAFTA, Isabelle Adjani aux Césars, une vraie saga qui se dessine et qui ne me laisse plus vraiment de doute quant à la victoire de Sandra Bullock le weekend prochain. I’ve got to puke, again.

Oh wait, that really happened. And not just ANY award. In case you didn’t get a chance to see this, watch Kristen Stewart winning the BAFTA for « Rising Star » of the year, over such people as Carey Mulligan or Nicholas Hoult. This is how low an actress can get, unhappy, boring, pukable (yes, I made up that word). But still, in all her distinguished disgusting way, she looks like (because, believe it or not, she really can « look like » something) she’s aware that she didn’t deserve an award (even voted for by the public). Life inside? Yes, maybe, nobody knows. I hate her, forever and always.
