The Year of Adele: introduction, transition, and open conclusion.

There is this feeling, every time I read about another broken record or professed love through a big award for Adele. I catch myself feeling almost maternal and proud. Crazy! So you can easily imagine the bliss, when Goddess Adele so deservedly received the 6 Grammy Awards she was nominated for, including the 3 most prestigious prizes in the music industry: Best Song, Best Record, and Best Album of the Year…!

Coincidentally, it’s been a little bit more than a year since I started my loving tirade here, with a neverending set of boring overwhelming posts that were meant to warn you of the perfection coming right at your ears… and God did it come. What a year! And what a rise to success, in so many incredible ways, that was set in stone this Sunday, celebrating the triumph one of the best albums of the decade: 21.

I think it profoundly touched me all through the year because I had started enjoying this little gem from the very beginning, enchanted first by the album 19 and hoping for her to continue producing brilliant work later on. She is beautiful! It’s refreshing to have someone genuinely humble and normal and simple, with no need of choreography, über-sexiness, colored lights or special effects – she just IS there, not caring about anything but singing. And that this can still be recognized nowadays! Wow, there’s still hope.

And she is 23. Damn 23, people, meaning that there is SO MUCH MORE perfection coming!

Here are a few videos to enjoy, as a sort of mini Adele Report (you will have noticed that I tried to keep it short and not to write an essay!). Delight yourself with that visible confidence, constant cheekiness, and newly-found happiness of her!    : )

Post-It

One of the biggest excitements of my pre-summer has been CRUSHED because of a laryngitis. Adele cancelled the remaining of her US tour due to a total vocal rest forced upon her by doctors. HOWLS.

So this is why we will probably never see Adele in Montreux anymore…

I was really frustrated to discover the program for this year’s Montreux Jazz Festival back in April and not to find Adele on it… I guess I just got an explanation for that. Here is Adele sharing some wise words recently in Q Magazine, in the midst of her superstardom:

« I think it’s shameful when you sell out. It depends what kind of artist you wanna be but I don’t want my name anywhere near another brand. I don’t wanna be tainted or haunted. I don’t want to be in everyone’s face. I’m a big music fan and I get really pissed off when it gets like that … and I don’t want people to get like that with me. I was furious when they did that on [re-releasing her debut album with extra tracks] 19. I said ‘No’ and they did it anyway. Just mugging off your fans.
I will not do festivals. The thought of an audience that big frightens the life out of me. I don’t think the music would work either. It’s all too slow. We had three nights on hold at The O2 and I was like ‘I wont play a festival. You think I’m gonna play a fuckin’ arena? Are you out of your mind?’ I’d rather play 12 years at the Barfly [small venue for indie bands] than one night at The O2! So I’ve made all those decisions and some people are pretty mortified. They think I’m mad. »

In the meantime, Adele still holds the #1 spot on the UK Charts for a 16th week! This has been the longest-running number one since 1978… And her debut album, 19 (released back in 2008) is #3 (as it has been for quite some time… ).  In the US, she’s been holding the number one spots both for her album (#1 for 8 non-consecutive weeks) and her single (Rolling In The Deep) for two weeks now. Her album came out in FEBRUARY! Oh, Goddess Adele.

Did you know?

I know I’ve been talking a lot about music lately, but isn’t it strange that my last two musical crushes, the two I’ve been swamping you with, are somewhat linked? Adele recently admitted that her 21 album has been inspired partially by her love for another great album, Mumford & Sons‘ 2009 Sigh No More… This is just crazy. And makes total sense. The love in my heart makes total sense.

Goddess Adele, through and through

Ok, ok. I promise I will soon stop bugging you with my Adele posts. But after having watched this a couple of times since last week, I thought I really needed to share it, in case you haven’t seen it already… This is a prime example of Adele‘s perfection, delivering one of her best live performances ever on stage at the Brit Awards last week, a splendid (and, you’ll see at the end of the video, also emotional) rendition of arguably the most beautiful song off 21, her new album. Perfection is also when you get such a huge effect, without any light/sound/dance effect, but just a humble piano to accompany you. It’s crazy how Someone Like You absolutely works both in its acoustic version, as well as with a more powerful element to it for events like that…

By the way, personally, Adele also represents one of the only few things that I know for sure await me over the next few months: her concert in Los Angeles on June 9th! iiiiiiiiii!

Adele Goes Straight To Number One

January 27th: the best album of 2011 might well be in our hands already. Adele is back, Adele is big, Adele is great! Her new album, 21, was just released in Europe, UK, Japan and Australia, one month before the US… and it went straight to number one in 14 countries! No explanation needed. This is the perfect follow-up to 19, and it will, without a doubt, follow the same successful path… oooh yes!

The best way to appreciate it? The Track-by-Track Interview that brings a new (and gorgeous) light to it all. It is not absolutely necessary, though, as Adele‘s music always seems to carry itself without any description needed, it has meaning that applies to any one individual, no matter the situation, it’s just brilliant… Yeah, well, it can’t really be a very happy situation, I know haha! She has one of these voices… it makes you listen, whatever she’s singing, really.

Not much more to say (well, there is, actually, tons), this post was just another devious way for me to talk about Adele again… and force you to listen to this amazing album. And if you haven’t listened to its perfect predecessor, 19, don’t try to talk to me again. As an appetizer, here is one of my favorite songs off 21, that almost adds a different sound to her music

Thank God for that infamous ex-boyfriend who inspired this gem.

I don’t want to be overwhelming with Adele…

… but I can’t help sharing this brilliance with you. Another video that just popped up of yet another new song (Someone Like You) from the delicious Adele, live on Later… with Jools Holland. ‘Overwhelming’ is the word…
